Short, cropped, trim, layered, shaved, long, and afro-like – changing trends in hairstyles are not limited to the hair on your head. When it comes to pubic hair, most would agree, less is more.
In the 15th century, abundant pubic hair was a sign of sexuality and good health. Today, women remove hair for hygiene, religious reasons and even to increase sensation during sexual intercourse.
In the The Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers asked 2,453 women aged 18 to 68 about their pubic hair grooming practices and sexual experiences on a day-to-day level.
Pubic hair removal was associated with younger age and a greater interest in sex, which most would assume. After all, most women would rarely groom themselves thoroughly, aside from trimming thanks to the inconveniences of menses.
However, the most interesting results of the study showed that pubic hair removal was significantly associated with vaginal fingering, finger-clitoral stimulation, having a casual sex partner, using vaginal hygiene products, and applying cream to the genitals. Furthermore, pubic hair removal was marginally associated with longer duration of vaginal penetration.
These findings show great insights into one’s self-image. Perhaps, the more one familiarizes themselves with their genitals, through grooming, the more comfortable and confident one with become – resulting in greater number of pleasurable experiences and longer sexual intercourse with their partners.
