Competition in the Tusker Project Fame is heating up as the grand finale fast approaches. After the judges showed clemency to the contestants the previous week, no one escaped the dreaded probation list this week. Constants are gearing up for a fierce battle in the penultimate week of the competition and ready to spur them on with his high octane brand of physical warm ups was Coach Edu.
In a recap of the weekend performances, Coach Kavutha reminded the contestants that they needed to care of their voices and bodies for optimal performance. Following some minor issues with microphones over the weekend contestants were both nervous and eager for advice. Leading the charge was Hope who was quick to ask for guidance on how to handle technical malfunctions.
“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”
With the contestants expected to perform live this week the bar has been set at an ultimate high for the remaining singers who will have to pitch perfect to secure a place in the final week of the Project Fame completion. Kavutha said that despite the issues the trio of Nyambura, Amos and Hisia’s had the best performance of Saturday with Pentatonix ‘RadioActive’ which was Judge Ian’s choice.
This week the musical direction is down to the duo Atemi and Tim Rimbui who are the musical directors of the week. Both with vast experience in the music industry, they are no strangers to Tusker Project Fame. Atemi has acted as a guest judge on the show while Tim is the man behind the excellent sound mix in the Dome.
One man intent on being in that final show is Patrick. The star from Rwanda was clear that he was determined to be here for that final and would do everything to be there. Patrick praised the faculty for broadening his horizons and reflected that through Principal Eric, Coach Kavutha and Coach Edu, he was singing in Swahili now and performing on stage- something he had never done before TPF 6!
The week has seen the instructors push the remaining contenders to get their bodies and vocals in peak condition as the contestants tackle the “mash up” of various chart topping hits. Each mash up was crafted to match the character of the individual contestants and give them a chance to show their vocal maturity during their time in the academy.
Nyambura worked with Atemi and Tim to fix a pattern for her mash up of Atemi’s ‘Happy’ and Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’. After an initial struggle with the song Nyambura ended the session with a next to flawless rehearsal. Also perfecting his songs was Hisia who likewise managed to overcome a few rhythm issues with his mash up. Band Leader Aaron showed why he is a musical maestro when he reworked Fela Kuti’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’ and John Legend’s ‘Best You Ever Had’.
Taking audiences back to their most memorable moments of the season Band Leader Aaron challenged contestants to arrange songs of their own to once again showcase their understanding of music; an art which they have been educated on during their stay in the academy.
Ending the day with, the contestants went to interact with their fans and had a day filled with cultural activities. Their first stop was at the United Nations Office in Nairobi where they rubbed shoulders with the representatives and took photos of their historic trip. Finally, turning heads and stopping traffic in Nairobi’s CBD the contestants went off to San Valencia for their meet and greet where they signed autographs and relaxed with fans. After a spirited week in the Academy, music directors of the week Atemi and Tim Rimbui are shaping what will turn out to be a truly remarkable show this weekend.
