It’s official — celebrated band singer Stecia Mayanja has taken a bold step into Uganda’s political arena.

In a surprising but serious turn of events, Stecia was today unveiled as the new President of the National Peasants Party (NPP), marking her formal entry into active politics.
This development comes shortly after she publicly declared her intention to contest for the Kampala Woman MP seat in the 2026 general elections — a position currently held by Shamim Malende of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Initially, many netizens had dismissed her political ambition as mere social media talk aimed at gaining online traction.
However, her unveiling as party president has cemented her commitment, proving skeptics wrong and setting the tone for what promises to be a serious political campaign.
The National Peasants Party has also announced plans to field candidates at all levels in the forthcoming elections, signaling a wider strategy to influence change across Uganda’s political landscape. With Stecia at the helm, the party hopes to appeal to ordinary Ugandans — especially those often overlooked in mainstream politics.
As the 2026 elections draw nearer, Stecia Mayanja’s political journey will be one to watch closely.
