Airtel logoHere’s a statement by Airtel Uganda on the Damage of Airtel’s Fibre Infrastructure by  Africell Uganda Limited:

It has come to our attention that Africell Uganda has damaged Airtel Uganda’s optic fibre cables in some parts of Kampala and Bwaise, in violation of the terms of a Search Warrant that has since been suspended by the Magistrate Court of Nakawa.

Airtel Uganda filed an application with the Magistrate Court of Nakawa and secured an Interim Order suspending any further search and or damage of Airtel fibre until court pronounces itself on Airtel’s main application.

This matter has also been brought to the attention of the Regulator, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

We wish to clarify in the most unequivocal terms that the allegations levied by Africell Uganda against Airtel Uganda are unfounded. The allegations are full of falsehoods intended to injure the reputation of Airtel Uganda.

We take exception to the allegations and shall explore all legal remedies available to protect our reputation and hold Africell Uganda liable to the full extent of the law.

In light of the sub judice principle, we are not at liberty to discuss the merits of the application pending before a court of judicature.

At an opportune time Airtel Uganda will provide more information on the matter and the steps taken to hold Africell accountable for the damage caused to Airtel’s infrastructure and reputation.
