Patrick MweheireThe Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda, Patrick Mweheire has achieved global recognition after winning the Ai 50 SRI CEO of the year at the 9th annual African Investor awards held recently in New York.

Launched in 2007, the Africa Investor (Ai) Institutional Investment and Capital Market Awards are based on the African Investor Index Series and are the only pan-African Awards designed to recognise Africa’s best performing stock exchanges, listed companies, investment banks, business leaders, research teams, regulators, socially responsible companies and sovereign wealth and pension fund investors.

Africa investor’s Ai100 and Ai40 Investors’ indices capture the top 40 and 100 of the largest and most liquid publicly-traded stocks across Africa, ranking them by market capitalisation and by liquidity. Ai also produces the pan-African Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Indices, the Ai SRI 50 and Ai SRI 30, which were launched in 2006 in association with the United Nations.

Accepting the award Patrick noted that it was a team effort and worthy recognition for Uganda and ultimately for the bank. “I would like to thank our outstanding teams for their commitment and dedication which has elevated our business to the next level and led to the remarkable achievement of this award. This confirms that our customer centric strategy focused on delivering industry leading and cost effective product solutions for our customers is making a real difference”. He further added, “I am additionally pleased because these Global awards raise Uganda’s investment profile with significant benefits in attracting Foreign Direct Investment”.

Other CEO’s nominated for the same Ai 50 SRI award but ultimately awarded to Patrick Mweheire included: Onne Van der Weijde of Dangote Cement, David Constable of SASOL, Andrew Mackenzie of BHP Billiton, Peter Amangbo of Zenith Bank, Terence Goodlace of Impala Platinum, Antonio Fourie of Innscor Africa, Jairaj Sonoo of State Bank of Mauritius and Ben Chumo from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

It has been a triumphant year for Stanbic following the bank’s recognition in a series of awards. Among these include: Most valuable African banking brand in the Banker’s 2016 list of top 500 banks in the world, best foreign exchange provider in Africa at the 2016 Finance magazine awards and being crowned as Africa’s Best Bank for Markets at the Euromoney awards for excellence in London. In addition, Euromoney recently named Stanbic Bank as the Best Bank in Uganda and in Zambia.
