Ugandan rally drivers who have dropped out of the Mountain Gorilla Rally scheduled to take place over the weekend in Rwanda have been confirmed to be three in number.
Ponsiano Lwakataka, Leila Mayanja, and Patrick Mugisha are the ones who have been shortlisted to be out of the rally starting this Friday.
We caught up with one of the strongest drivers that has been confirmed not to participate in the rally, Lwakataka who noted, “Due to some problems, I may not be able to take part in this rally though I had interest in being part of the competition.”
George Ssemakula the co-driver to Lwakataka added that they had prepared for the rally but stressed that the duo will not be able to participate.
George further explained “We had ordered for tires and the turbo but we have realised that both can’t be here in time hence retreating has been the nearest option for us but we wish the rest good luck.”
The anticipation was that Lwakataka would bring in more competition in this rally that starts with a super special stage but has cited personal problems that have forced him out of the rally. This has left Jas Mangat, Christakis Fitidis, Ismail Ortega, Abbas Bukenya and Patrick Kiwewa as the only Ugandan drivers confirmed to participate in the Rwanda Gorilla Rally this weekend.
Ten Ugandan drivers had initially shown interest in taking part in the African Rally Championship race in the Rwandan capital Kigali over the weekend.
