Airtel Uganda is set to thrill music fans in Uganda in on 8th March, 2014 at the Garden City Rooftop Kampala with a women’s day concert to be headlined by Jamaican singer Nyanda in the finest display of international and local music thus far.

Airtel Uganda has been in the forefront in promoting music and the arts internationally will again bring the finest talent there is to Uganda, this to the delight of the music lovers here in Uganda.

Described as a conscious legend in the making, Nyanda made history as one of the legendary group Brick and Lace and had a sold out concert in January 2004 in Kampala. Since 2013 Nyanda has gone out and had a successful career with chart topping hits such as “slippery when wet” and released a dance hall remix to Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” single all building up to her for her upcoming solo album.

Speaking during her unveiling, Airtel Brand Manager in Uganda said that Nyanda is an exceptional musician and a strong young woman and that’s why Airtel is bringing her to Uganda. She also added that “her being a very popular artist with the younger generation whose music they relate with and focus on the youth is big for Airtel, it made sense to partner so Airtel can use to grow their interest in growing and nurturing the music industry both local and international.”

The Women’s day concert theme this year is ‘International Women’s day’ and will be a platform to celebrate the many things that Uganda women have given to society or impacted change on a large or small scale internationally and locally.

Speaking during the press conference Airtel managing director Mr. Arindam Chakrabarty said “We are extremely grateful to have Nyanda here who will be headlining this concert. Women’s Day is an International Celebration, every 8th March. Airtel realizes the importance of the Woman in its life; and has thus seen the women that stand out”.

During the concert Airtel will continue to celebrate womanhood by recognizing the Ugandan Women of Substance 2014 award winners. The women of substance awards celebrate the achievements of woman in Uganda who have made a significant contribution to society through sports, music, public service, arts & culture and media. These women have made an impact in Uganda and have become role models within their communities.

The press conference concluded with a photo opportunity for the artistes and their new sponsors.
