Tanzanian based side Simba are the new champions of the Mapinduzi Peace Cup after defeating Mtibwa Sugar in a penalty shootout yesterday at the Aman Stadium in Zanzibar. It was 4-3 in favour of Simba at the end of the penalty shootout.
In a pretty tight and competitive encounter, it looked as though both sides hadn’t fielded any strikers after the game ended in a goalless draw after 90minutes.
Simba is largely know in Uganda for fielding many Ugandans including Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi who also featured in the winning team. Others include Joseph Owino, Murushid Jjuuko, Daniel Sserunkuma who joined the club recently from Gor Mahia and Simon Sserunkuma.
On top of the silverware, Simba also walked away with a grand prize of $10,000 as they were crowned champions of the annual tournament for the third time.
