A WOMAN was gang-raped, murdered and left hanging from a tree, echoing the shocking double rape and murder of two women in India last month.
Pakistani police revealed Muzammil Bibi, 20, was attacked by three men as she walked in a field in Layyah, an area of the Punjab province.
Sadaqat Ali Chohan, a senior officer from the Punjab Police, said: “This is the first time in my 22 years of service in the police that I have seen such a case, where a girl was raped in this way and found hanging from a tree.”
He then chillingly suggested the attack may be a copy of the murder of two teenagers in the Indian village of Karta.
In that case the girls’ bodies were found hanging from a tree in an orchard with post-mortem examinations confirming they were raped prior to being killed.
“We have heard of such cases in India but never Pakistan,” Mr Chohan continued.
“The girl’s clothes were torn. We took her down and moved her to hospital.
“Her body had signs of resistance. We have arrested three individuals who have confessed to the crime.”
The three suspects have told police they strangled the woman to death after she resisted their attempts to rape her.
