Talented singer and songwriter Shena Skies has emotionally opened up about her frustrations and struggles in the Ugandan music industry, revealing that despite penning hit songs for top artists, her own breakthrough has remained elusive.

In a heartfelt statement, Shena admitted that music has become a source of depression for her—not just because of the industry’s challenges, but because of how her own journey has unfolded.
“Music is pay to play,” she said. “It’s not about how much you sing or how good you are. You’ve got to pay someone to play your music.”
Shena went on to reveal that she has at times been defaulted on by some of the biggest names in the industry, even after writing successful songs for them.
Though she didn’t name names, her tone suggested betrayal and deep disappointment.
She clarified that her lack of success isn’t because she chooses to write for others instead of focusing on herself. Rather, she believes it’s a matter of misfortune and poor support structures.
“It’s not deliberate that I write for others and they shine while I stall. I’m just unlucky and I lack proper management,” Shena shared, holding back tears.
