Sheilah Gashumba Criticizes Uganda Airlines Over Inconsistent Service, Faces Backlash

Sheilah Gashumba has stirred a debate online after criticizing Uganda Airlines for inconsistent service provision.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, she expressed disappointment with the airline’s business class offerings, calling them substandard and not worth the extra cost.

Gashumba specifically pointed out that the business class seats on the South African route are comparable to economy class, making it a waste of money for passengers seeking premium service.

She advised her followers to book economy class instead, arguing that there is no significant difference between the two classes.

She further explained that the airline uses smaller planes for the South African route, while the larger aircraft are reserved for newer routes such as Lagos and Lusaka.

This, she noted, was unfair to customers using the older routes like South Africa, which had previously benefited from the larger, more comfortable planes.

Facing Online Criticism

Gashumba’s remarks sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some users supported her critique, others accused her of unfairly tarnishing the airline’s reputation. Critics labeled her as “clueless” and accused her of embarrassing a national brand.

In her defense, Gashumba clarified that she has often praised Uganda Airlines for its achievements but felt compelled to highlight its shortcomings. She emphasized that her criticism stemmed from her personal experiences with the airline, having used their services to South Africa more than ten times.

“If you check my tweets, I have tweeted the best things about Uganda Airlines since they started — for free, by the way,” she wrote. “My issue here is consistency. They always had a bigger craft for the SA route, but now those crafts are being used for new routes. My disappointment is that they are ignoring the old routes.”

Calls for Improvement

Gashumba also expressed frustration over the cost of flights, questioning why the same small aircraft is used for a 45-minute flight to Kenya and a four-hour flight to South Africa, especially when prices remain high. She described this practice as a “complete rip-off” and called on the airline to address these issues.

The outspoken personality’s comments have reignited discussions about the quality and consistency of Uganda Airlines’ services, with many passengers sharing similar concerns. The airline has yet to respond to her remarks.
