Sheebah Karungi has publicly expressed her frustration over persistent power outages in the country, shortly after returning home from an extended stay abroad.
Sheebah, who spent nearly seven months in Canada where she recently gave birth, returned to Uganda over the weekend and was met with a familiar and unwelcome issue—frequent blackouts.
In a social media post, the artist addressed her concerns about the state of electricity in the country, which has reportedly worsened since the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) took over operations from Umeme, a company that had served Uganda for 25 years.
“Naye Uganda! Uganda! My motherland,” she wrote. “Sheebaholics, I missed you too by the way. Naye ekya electricity tukikoledde ki banange! Are we supposed to live in constant worry like this?? This has been going on since I was a child, and now I have a child… and still, no solution yet??!!”
Her remarks echo the growing public discontent with the country’s electricity supply. Since UEDCL assumed control, there have been widespread complaints about increased power outages and unreliability.
