Former Kampala city Mayor, Nasser Ntege Sebbagala aka Seya has filed an appeal in the court of appeal after MTN won the case in which he accused the telecom giant of unlawfully using his speech as ring tone and call back tune.
The former Mayor demands Ugx 8billion in compensation from MTN. He claims the company made gains from the download of the material yet he did not authorise its use.
However, he had lost the case after the Commercial Court magistrate cited that Seya had no control or regulation over interviews he made to the press thus he could not control how it would be used by media houses or MTN. It was also noted that several people who make speeches would frustrate the court with similar cases.
Seya, a darling of the media, “killed clans of buffaloes” in the speech which perhaps prompted MTN to use the speech.
Seya has vowed to fight till the end.
