Popular Ugandan media personality and actor Senga Justine Nantume recently shared her sentiments regarding her experience after the closure of the renowned local radio station Dembe FM, which has left her and many others jobless.

In an online interview, Nantume expressed her deep disappointment and sorrow over the closure, emphasizing the emotional toll it has taken on her.

“I felt and still feel so bad about it. I had spent more years there at the radio station, and I was more like a household name with a massive fanbase. I always went there every day to work not because of money but instead passion and entertainment,” she lamented during an online interview.

The closure of Dembe FM was officially announced in December 2023, marking the end of its nearly 21 years of service. The station management cited the need to discontinue all programming indefinitely as they evaluate its future direction.

“We regret to inform our esteemed listeners, clients, and stakeholders that… the station, for the foreseeable future, will have no scheduled programming as the board and management reassess its continued viability as a business concern,” read the official statement from the management.

The sudden closure has left many employees, including Nantume, without jobs and scrambling to secure new opportunities.

The uncertainty surrounding the station’s future has exacerbated the situation, leaving individuals like Nantume feeling desperate to find new avenues for their talents and livelihoods.
