Over the past years, Eastern Uganda’s music scene has grown immensely, producing talents who have gained national and even continental recognition.
From veteran legends like Mowzey Radio (RIP), General Mega Dee, and Emperor Orlandoh, to contemporary stars like Acidic Vokoz, John Blaq, and Victor Ruz, the region’s influence on Uganda’s music industry is undeniable.
We spoke with Selecta Rizzon, a key figure behind the success of some of these artists, including Acidic Vokoz, Liam Voice, and Twilight.

Known for his passion for nurturing talent, Selecta Rizzon—born David Sembera—shared his insights on the evolution of Eastern Uganda’s music, his personal journey, and the challenges of artist management in Uganda.
Who is Selecta Rizzon?
“I am David Sembera, born on January 20, 1992, in Bugulumbya Sub-County, Kamuli district. My parents, Dr. Lyagoba Moses and Ms. Hadijja Namubiru, always envisioned me pursuing medicine or teaching, but I followed my passion for media and music.”
Describe your early life and education.
“I grew up in Kamuli and attended Nawanende SDA primary school & Nawanyago Busano schools for primary level education. I later joined Victoria High School in Iganga and St. Michael High School in Mukono for secondary school. My father wanted me to become a medical worker, but I took a different path. After a stint in motor mechanics, I eventually pursued a diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication at Crane Media Institute.”

How did you enter the music industry?
“My interest in music began in 2009 when I was inspired by media personalities like Detacha Sankalaman and Peter M Gazamba. The Late Scorpion was the main man who realized my potential and gave me chance, may his soul rest in peace. With encouragement from friends, I organized a successful concert in my home area, which fueled my passion. I later became an entertainment presenter at Apex FM in Jinja, where I built relationships with artists and headed the Iganga Musicians Association. Over time, I managed artists like John Blaq (Ground Manger – Eastern), Liam Voice (Main Manager), and now Acidic Vokoz (Main Manager).“
What inspired you to manage artists?
“I always dreamed of discovering and shaping talent. My goal was to create a platform for artists to succeed and introduce them to the world. I also realized I could help them secure direct bookings and build sustainable careers.”

What challenges have you faced in artist management?
“Artists’ unprofessionalism has been a major challenge. Many managers feel demotivated because of this. I advise artists to stay disciplined and maintain good relationships with their managers.“
Tell us about Acidic Vokoz and the ‘Ndi Musoga’ concert.
“Acidic Vokoz is a phenomenal talent, and we’ve worked hard to elevate his brand. The ‘Ndi Musoga’ concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval was a milestone. Initially planned for Zoe Grounds, we moved the venue due to overwhelming support from fans. The event brought Basoga people together and highlighted the potential of Eastern Uganda’s music.“

What do you think about the current music industry?
“The industry is growing, but cutting through to Central Uganda remains challenging. I succeeded by building strong connections and maintaining humility. Artists need to focus on building good relationships and staying consistent.”

What are your plans for the future?
“I see myself becoming a wealthy man in the entertainment industry. For Acidic Vokoz, we’re planning a series of concerts this August 2025. We want to continue pushing boundaries and representing Eastern Uganda.“
Final thoughts?
“I thank everyone who has supported me and my artists. To artists, I advise discipline and mutual respect with their managers. Together, we can build lasting success.”
