SCVU make continental bow

charles tibanganaIt will be unchartered waters for Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) when Uganda’s Caf Confederations Cup representatives get to action on today(8th Feb).

The Uganda Cup winners face a daunting task when they take on DRC’s CS Don Bosco in Lubumbashi as they make their continental bow.

And SCVU coach Morley Byekwaso will have to dig a little deeper as his inexperienced side will be missing three of the club’s most experienced players.

Defenders Savio Kabugo, Denis Guma and midfielder Mike Sserumaga will all miss out through suspension.

Kabugo and Guma were suspended after they failed to report to camp after their national team duty with Cranes in Chan, South Africa while Sserumaga was thrown out of the team hotel for reportedly sneaking out at night and returning drunk.

But former SCVU skipper and Uganda Cranes international defender Nestroy Kizito, who is now part of the club’s coaching staff, believes that having a young squad playing the first leg away from home would play in their favour.

“Young players play with a lot of passion,” said the former Cranes left back Kizito adding, “Playing the first leg away from home is an advantage because players are also able to express themselves better without added pressure of home fans.”

However, despite missing his most experienced players, coach Morley Byekwaso is expected to name a fairly attacking lineup with Bernard Agele likely to replace Guma.

Former Vipers’ midfielder Murushid Jjuuko is expected to make his debut in the holding role alongside while Noah Ssemakula will be tasked with crafting things for lone striker Simon Okwi.
