After a humiliating exit from the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup and being knocked out of the Uganda Cup by Odupakara FC (4-3 on penalties) over the weekend, SC Villa have turned their focus to the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL).

On the back of whipping SC Victoria University 4-0 in the league before playing in the Uganda Cup on the weekend, the Jogoos have thumped Lweza FC 3-1 in a game played at Nakivubo War Memorial stadium on Tuesday evening.

January recruit Mike Sserumaga scored a brace with a goal in each half while striker Umar Kasumba netted the other on the day to send Villa to 11th place on the 16-team log with 33 points from 20 games. Francis Ssembatya netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Elsewhere, army side Simba Sports Club dented Kampala Capital City Authority’s title hopes as they defeated them 1-0 at Bombo Military stadium, condemning them to a second consecutive league defeat following their 2-1 loss to The Saints FC on Friday last week.

After a barren first half, Witaba Alex scored a 63rd minute goal that eventually became the match winner as his side continue to fight relegation.

Simba are now on 25 points with only three games left to determine their fate while KCCA FC remained on 51 points with two games played more than a second placed Vipers who are on 45 points.
