Sport Club Victoria University (SCVU) condemned Uganda Revenue Authority FC to their first defeat of the season as they beat them 2-1 at Mandela national stadium (Namboole) yesterday.
Victoria University recovered from last week’s 2-1 loss to Lweza FC as they came from behind to defeat the Tax collectors.
Frank Kalanda put the visitors ahead with a spectacular header in the 5th minute of the game when the hosts failed to defend Yayo Luitmba’s free kick.
The Hussein Kheri-coached side did not sit back as they mounted pressure on the Tax collectors forcing defender Samuel Ssekitto to bring down Farouk Kawooya in the forbidden area and center referee Rajab Bakasambe made no mistake but to point at the penalty spot. Titus Lubega leveled matters for Victoria University as he converted from 12 yards.
In the second half, URA piled pressure on the hosts but they griped to their 1-1 draw until Farouk Kawooya once again rose to the occasion to notch the winner after receiving a through pass from Nicholas Kagaba despite Moses Basena making three attacking changes that yielded no positive result.
The Uganda Cranes assistant coach had brought on Peter Lwasa, Elkana Nkugwa and Feni Ali for Sam Sekitto, Said Kyeyune and Yayo Lutimba respectively.
The result denied URA a chance to rise into the top three at the Azam Uganda Premier League table but instead dragged them down to the 10th place with their eight points from five games
Meanwhile, Victoria University moved to the 6th spot on the log with nine points.
