Saturday night was one of the best East African themed nights in Uganda. East Africa’s most celebrated musical act, Sauti Sol staged a colourful show at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
It all started with a performance by young and talented singer, Nutty Neithan who warmed up the stage for the big acts. Although the audience didn’t look impressed with the ‘Bakuwe Kyonywa’ singer, spirits were high in anticipating for a mega show from Sauti Sol.
It is at this moment that BET Award winner and husband to Rema Namakula, Eddy Kenzo, walked into the building to watch the show. Fans cheered on until he took his seat.
The emcees of the night, Gabs and Shovon then invited the next singer on stage. It was Micheal Ross to the amusement of many. Ross break-danced to girls’ hearts. He performed his famous ‘Yoyo’ song. Girls were seen singing along. The show had at this point long kicked off.
Allan Toniks also staged an energetic performance dubbing innocent girls on stage as he did his popular tunes.
At around 10:20pm, Swahili Nation took to the stage. Many people were standing. All seats were taken. Girls were taking countless selfies. Batteries were warning. Beautiful women were everywhere. Waiters walking all over the place delivering orders. The crowd was wild.
As they did their 90’s rendition, one could clearly tell that Swahili Nation are still at the peak of their unrivaled performance. Memories were surely evoked at this point.
Maurice Kirya too had something for his fans. At around 11pm, he walked on stage quietly and performed his ‘Never Been Loved’ track off his Mwooyo album. The ladies, of course, shouted in their shrill voice. The show went on.
As the clock struck midnight, Sauti Sol, was unleashed on revelers who were ready to party. Not to disappoint anyone, the boys started with Lazizi. The audience rose on its feet. It was dancing time.
Sauti Sol went on entertaining fans. Hit after hit they unleashed on the fans. From “Coming Home”, to the soothing “Nerea” they sang it all with their bewitching voices.
At this point, Sauti Sol gave shouts to Museveni, Radio and Weasel, Kansiime, Juliana Kanyomozi and Chameleone. They forgot other ‘big’ people, not so?
Sheila Gashumba and Ellah go also saw this an opportune time to jump on stage and dance with the Kenyan superstars. They didn’t seem impressed. In fact, Ellah got told off the stage. She rolled her eyes in disappointment.
One girl then walked up the stage and removed one guy’s t-shirt, button-by-button as the boys performed their famous seductive “Nishike” song.
The show was wrapped up at 1:20am and everyone went home happy after the colorful show. The show was sponsored by by Talent Africa, Vision Group and Tusker Lite.
