Sauti Sol have yet again scored big in their musical career by drawing inspiration from the late Amy Winehouse.
Amy Jade Winehouse was a Grammy Award winning English singer and songwriter. Her second album, Back to Black led to five 2008 Grammy Awards and made her the first British female to win five Grammys.
The album posthumously became, for a time, the UK’s best-selling album of the 21st century.
She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, aged 27.
However, her memory, music, and elements that made the album a huge success remain and our very own Sauti Sol got to experience them.
In their current tour of USA, Sauti Sol got to record with the microphone Amy Winehouse used to record Back to Black in the same studio she used and with the very same producer, Mark Ronson.
The band’s member, Fancy Fingers, could not contain his excitement as he posted a video on the gram showing off the microphone.
He wrote, “Amy Winehouse used this microphone to record her Rehab album. Last night Sauti Sol recorded on this very microphone in the very same studio with the very same producer! Yikes!!! God is good.”
