Samsung is reportedly planning to release two new smartphones before the end of 2014 in a bid to improve disappointing financial results.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung Mobile’s senior vice president Kim Hyun-Joon promised investors that a new large screen device will be launched, as well as another using “new materials”.
The large screen smartphone is expected to be a new model in the Galaxy Note series, following the Galaxy Note 3 Neo which was unveiled in February.
Meanwhile, the smartphone with “new materials” could be a move away from a plastic casing.
There have been multiple leaks of a device dubbed the Galaxy Alpha, which appears to swap plastic for a more premium metal form factor.
Galaxy Alpha is thought to be a codename for the same device that has previously leaked under the moniker of the Galaxy S5 Prime and the Galaxy F.
Reports have also claimed that the Galaxy Alpha could be unveiled in August – a month before the iPhone 6 is expected – in an attempt to steal Apple’s thunder.
