The 9th edition of the East African military games finally concluded yesterday at the Nelson Mandela stadium, Namboole in Kampala.
Out of a total of five sporting activities under taken during the course of the tournament, Rwanda emerged as number one after winning three sports out of five (3/5).
Kagame’s army won gold in basketball, handball and football.
Their triumph in the football category came after Uganda and defending champions Kenya played to a goalless draw in the final game of the competition.
The result left Rwanda top of the pool with 7 points thereby winning the football title while Uganda and Kenya had 6 points each.
Hosts, Uganda only managed to win gold in Netball while Kenya dominated the men and women cross country.
The closing ceremony was graced by General Katumba Wamala, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and State minister for Defence, General Jeje Odongo.
Individual Awards:
Robert Omunuk of Simba – Top scorer with 3 goals in football
Musa Mudde – voted as the most Valuable player (MVP)
Alicia Wasagali of Uganda – top scorer in netball with 136 goals
Nasra Hassan of Tanzania – voted the MVP in netball
Rwanda will host the 2016 games in Kigali
