The fourth edition of the Annual Netherlands Golf Tournament took place on Saturday, with golfer Rukundo Paul emerging overall winner in the men’s category with 42 points and Asiimwe Evelyn won the ladies’ category with 89 points. Rukundo beat seasoned golfers to win a return air ticket to Netherlands.
Sponsored by dfcu Bank in partnership with the Dutch Embassy, KLM airlines, VIVO energy, Sadolin Paints and Shares (U) Ltd, the annual Netherlands Business Golf Cup is an event that brings together members of Uganda’s business community in both the public and private sector to provide a networking opportunity with Dutch affiliated businesses.
Last year, over 200 participants teed off at the 2017 Netherlands Business Golf which took place at the Kitante Golf Club. Golfers networked with guests from various business backgrounds as they played on one of Uganda’s toughest golf courses.
Later in the evening, businessmen and women were treated to a dinner and awards ceremony at the Uganda Golf Club, to recognize the outstanding players of the tournament.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, dfcu Bank’s Chief Change & Innovations Officer, Paul van Apeldoorn said the tournament provided a platform for various members of the Ugandan business sector to network, share best business practices and in turn grow their individual business pursuits.
There was excitement as the day’s champion was awarded for an outstanding performance on the greens that enabled them win the 2017 Netherlands Business Golf Cup. Both players received fuel vouchers of 500,000 shillings from Vivo Energy and air tickets to Amsterdam from KLM.
Last year’s overall winners were Hillary Ndugutse and Candy Mpanga with 41 and 39 points respectively. Anton Krisch won the Juniors’ category, while Popat won the Piga Mingi men’s category and Cecilia Ogwal won the ladies’ category.

By Our Reporter
Airtel Uganda in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom has announced that Shs494 million was collected during the Airtel Kabaka Run.
The proceeds will be used to promote Sickle Cell Disease awareness as well as procure test kits.
“Shs200 million will go into buying test kits for screening Sickle Cell Disease awareness while Shs249 million will be channeled towards sensitization and awareness campaigns,” the Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Robert Waggwa said during the announcement made at the Buganda Kingdom offices in Bulange, Mengo.
“21% of the people in Buganda have sickle cells, one is either a carrier or has the disease. With these proceeds, we will be sensitizing people about the disease and also testing them,” he added.
Airtel Uganda Head of Brands and Communication Remmie Kisakye, thanked Ugandans for turning up in in big numbers for the run that happened on April 7, 2019 and reconfirmed Airtel’s commitment towards the fight against Sickle Cells Disease.
“In line with our three-year theme, we intend to continue driving awareness about the Sickle Cell Disease. Race for new Singleton golf Challenge champion intensifies as quarter-finals get underway
By Our Reporter
The dream of claiming the trophy for the first time will be the common denominator for all the eight ‘amateur category’ pairs (16 players) who will take to the green when the quarter-finals of the Singleton Match PlayChallenge get underway this Saturday, May 11 at the par-71 Entebbe Golf Course.
With defending champions Sheila Kesiime and Peace Kabasweka ejected at the third round of the competition last month by Samuel Kato and Charles Odere, it is anyone’s title for Season Three. Yet not even the winners of the inaugural season, Isaac Mariera and John Muchiri, can bid for a second triumph, as their journey was cut short at the same round last month, going down to the determined pair of Andrew Atuhaire and Geofrey Orach.
The elimination of both pairs of former champions means that this year the amateur category of the challenge is yet again certain to get a new pair of champs–just like it was last year when Peace and Sheila won. The prize for the champions is a trip to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in January 2020.
In the mouth-watering quarter-final action this Saturday, the pair of Samuel Kato and Charles Odere will face off with yet another ladies team in Martha Babirye and Maureen Okura, who eliminated another much-fancied female team–Gloria Mbaguta and Evelyn Asiimwe. Wendy Angudeye/Doreen Mwesige will take on the winner between Tim Mwanda/Suubi Kiwanuka and Charles Hamya/Joseph Bogera.
In the pros section, the quarter finals will feature Herman ‘Deco’ Mutebi, Fred Wanzala, Robert Happy, Abraham Ainamani, Gerald Kabuye, Herman Mutawe, David Kamulindwa and Ronald Rugumayo. In their battle for the Shs50 million kitty, Mutebi will face Happy, Rugumayo takes on Wanzala, Ainemani challenges Kamulindwa, while Mutawe will lock horns with Kabuye.
