Rotary Cancer Run

The annual regional Rotary Cancer Run has been officially launched in Arua and is expected to attract more than 400 people come the 28th of August 2016.

“Last year we had about 200 people but due to the urgency of getting a cancer machine in Uganda, we have rallied people here in Arua we expect the turn up to reach at least 500,” said Robert Candia, the President of the Rotary Club of Arua at the launch.

The various cancer runs across the country are expected to raise at least shs500 million to equip the Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital with a Linear Accelerator.

Centenary Bank has been among the supporters of the Rotary clubs cancer activities and initiatives for over six years now and this year they are sponsoring the activities to a tune of Shs110 million.

The Chief Runner for the main run in Kampala at Kololo Independence Grounds is expected to be Omulangira David Wasajja Kintu. Participants will take part in the 5km, 10km and 21km races. Similar runs will take place in Arua, Mbarara, Masaka, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Gulu, Bushenyi, and Jinja.

It has been four years now since the Rotary Club has embarked on the task of bringing primary awareness through the Cancer Run and other cancer initiatives like the Rotary Family Health days.
