ROONEY: WILL HE GO OR STAY

For the past weeks, Englishman Wayne Rooney’s future has grown more uncertain and the question still looms, “Will he go or stay?” At the conclusion of the recent season where Manchester United reclaimed the Premier League title on the back of Sir Alex Ferguson ending his reign at the helm, Rooney handed in his second transfer request in three years.

The attacker had grown frustrated at playing second fiddle to the new United frontman Robin Van Persie.Wayne Rooney had been the focal point of United’s attack since Cristiano Ronaldo’s big money move to Real Madrid and the arrival of Van Persie threatened to shake protocol.

Sincerely I understand his stance. Van Persie emerged top scorer last season in the league with 26 goals  and also the talisman at Old Trafford. Rooney after an injury spell was given a more peripheral role occupying midfield position most times and  was relegated to the bench in crunchy ties against Real Madrid and embarrassingly against Sunderland and the final games of the season. In the event of all that ,his  ego was hurt and later compelled to seek a move.

In all honesty, Rooney has every reason to seek a move considering that in his 9 years at Old Trafford his medal cabinet is glamorous with Premier League Titles,a Champions League medal and a new challenge would be understandable. With Chelsea’s Mourinho gushing at his talent and making two bids to United that have subsequently been rejected, you must be sure that Rooney’s head has been turned abit.

United’s new manager David Moyes is yet to state Rooney’s position in his plans after clearly stating that Van Persie will be his star man this coming season but before that happens I am certain he is headed for the exit door.

Personally, I think Rooney should turn away Chelsea’s advances and stamp his importance to United and book himself into United Legend folklore. He is 7 th all time goal scorer at United with 197 goals in 401 appearances. Over to you Mr. Wayne.
