1. Give us a brief background of your musical career?
I have always loved music since childhood. I spent most of my time listening to and singing songs I heard on the radio. When I was still in my O’level at SHACK I used to rap for my friends during night preps and I remember being punished for that. I recorded my first song “Perfect” in my senior four vacation which was my motivation for being a rapper. My love for music grew so strong when I joined Seeta High because I used to spend every free moment I had writing songs.
2. Why did you choose to be a rapper?
I chose to be a rapper because of my love for poetry. One can express anything through rap music. I found rap music so inspirational. So, it was my love for poetry and inspiration from other Ugandan rappers that I chose being one.
3. Which have been your most memorable moments in your musical career so far?
I should say everything moment in my music career is memorable. Way back at Seeta High, I remember having a crush on some girl called Trinah who was also my classmate so I wrote a song about her. So one time during an entertainment session, I dropped some love punchlines in front of her. I released more than 200 copies of my Initiation album last year which sold out because people were really appreciating my music. When I released “Sagala Manya” I first sent it to GNL Zamba, one of the rappers that inspires me, and he really appreciated my works.
4. What do you do in your free time?
Music is all I do in my free time. I listen to any kind of good music. I spend time writing songs. I also love social networks and I should say I am an addict.
5. What would you say about your fashion sense/style?
I put on what makes me comfortable. I love snapbacks and I should say everything I put on looks great on me.
6. Are any of your siblings into music as much as you are?
No, am the only one doing music in my family though my siblings are more updated about music.
7. What is the best song you’ve composed?
Every song I have composed is the best because I always aim at the best whenever I am writing my songs. But “Nantalabika” and “Recovery” are the best according to what my fans say.
8. What else would you have done with your life apart from music?
I would have been a graphic designer because am also good at Art.
9. How do you manage to balance your musical life and school life?
It’s easy, there is time for everything. When it’s time for school I read like there no other thing around me. And when it’s time for music I give it my all.
10. Any challenges with being a rapper?
There are many challenges. Many people want to compare Ugandan rappers with those in the United States, so they expect every rapper to do it like them. I think every rapper has his own unique way of delivering his lyrical content. The other challenge is about our audience which tends to be more interested in foreign music instead of supporting our own Ugandan music. The only time one is recognized is when they make a break through that’s why I am always aiming for the best.
11. Advice to aspiring rap artists?
Aspiring rap artists should go on with what they really love to do but should not only keep dreaming about becoming the best. They should wake up to make that dream come true.
