Motor rally driver Ronald Ssebuguzi and his navigator Leone Ssenyange have scooped the Nile Special/ Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) best sports personality award for the month of October, 2015.
The duo won the 2015 TOTAL UMOSPOC Independence Day rally when they registered a record time of 2:18:08. Ssebuguzi and his counterpart won the accolade on a total of 480 votes beating tight competition from Uganda Cranes CHAN team who picked up 465 votes during a meeting held in Scarlet Hall at Imperial Royale hotel, Kampala.
Before the beginning of the meeting, USPA members offered a moment of silence to pay respect to the recently fallen sports heroes; Harriet Apako (former Netball and handball player) and Hajji Juma Nkambwe (former Federation of Motor Sport Union (FMU) publicist).
At the same gathering, the following were also applauded for their achievements:
2015 Amos Ndyagumanawe Nile Special National Open Pool Tournament.
Hima Cement Heathens for winning the Uganda Rugby Cup having beaten their arch rivals of Kobs 13-10 at Kyadondo rugby grounds.
Farouk Miya for netting twice against the Falcon of Sudan (one at home and the other away) as Uganda qualified for the CHAN finals that will be played next year in Rwanda.
Moses Kipsiro who won two big races i.e. the great Scottish run in Glasgow, Scotland and the great south run in Portsmouth, England.
Joshua Cheptegei who won the ASICS grand Berlin 10km run setting a new national record.
