As human trafficking offences were on the rise, Labour Recruiting & Exporting Companies were scratching heads for a solution. UAERA, a body that Unites all labour recruiting companies in Uganda has opened offices as a one stop centre for jobless Ugandans. The center among other responsibilities will receive all complaints and only registered companies will operate under it thereby reducing human trafficking. While launching yesterday at BMK building, Minister Hajat Janat Mukwaya hailed the development as a milestone in easing work for jobless Ugandans seeking jobs abroad.

Mukwaya said that the place is necessary for the legal framework involved in the booming industry.

“I am glad that  the private sector has come up with this initiative  to bridge this gap. The ministry has 12 essentials to fulfill including licensing and the monitoring,” she said.

Over 182 labour exporting companies have been legally accepted in 2019, up  from 24 in 2016. This represents a growth of  528%.

“Our current working space had small resources and we’re going to have new offices housed at BMK building which will be a one stop centre for all registered labour export companies in Uganda,” she explained.UERA Chairman Andrew Tusiime Kameraho commended government for its role in the growth of the industry.

He explained that the labour export industry has improved from 300 applicants to 3500 traveling every month. However, Kameraho said that there are still no chances for professional jobs abroad.

“There’s no hindrance for professionals but these jobs are less. We take professionals but they are few,” he said.
