Richy Kaweesa, who is also known as “Richy”, a multi-talented young Ugandan artist has been nominated in the RFI Discovery Awards. He is a vocalist, songwriter, guitarist and pianist and devotes his life exclusively to music. Though RnB is one of his main influences, he does not want to limit his music to a particular genre. He would like his style to be popular and sincere.
His career started in 2009 when he released tracks like “Missing You”, “Mama”, “Victorious” and “Will You Dance” which were hugely successful in Uganda. After taking two years out to reflect, he is releasing his first album.
Over the years, the Prix Découvertes has been awarded to diverse and popular artists including Tiken Jah Fakoly (Ivory Coast), Awadi (Senegal), Amadou and Mariam (Mali) and Maurice Kirya (Uganda).
