The retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Sam Omala has passed away.

His death was announced by Capt. Mike Mukula, CEO of Arrow Security Systems Ltd, where Omala served as Director of Operations and Deputy CEO.
Omala died on Monday morning at Mulago National Referral Hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was pronounced dead at 7:00 a.m.
In a statement issued by Capt. Mukula, the company expressed deep sorrow over the loss:
“Arrow Security Systems Ltd with deep sorrow announce the death of our Director Operations and Deputy CEO SAM OMALA (RIP). He has just passed on in Mulago Hospital after a long struggle with cancer.”
Sam Omala was a prominent figure in Uganda’s security sector, gaining national attention during his time as Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander.
He became widely known for his firm and often controversial approach to opposition protests, particularly during the “Walk to Work” demonstrations led by Dr. Kizza Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate.
Omala’s methods during the protests drew both criticism and praise.
Details regarding his funeral arrangements are expected to be released soon.
