Ugandan music sensation, Sheebah Karungi, can breathe a sigh of relief as UMEME, the country’s electricity distribution company, has restored power to her residence in Munyonyo. The self-proclaimed “Queen Karma” expressed her frustration earlier due to a three-day electricity blackout.
In a series of tweets on Wednesday morning, the outspoken singer vented her anger towards UMEME, detailing the hardships she endured during the power outage. Sheebah narrated the challenges of resorting to charging her phones at a nearby small shop, emphasizing the inconvenience of the situation.
Despite her attempts to reach out to the electricity company, Sheebah noted that all her efforts seemed to be in vain. She took to Twitter to make her grievances public, expressing her dissatisfaction with the company’s customer service.
However, as of the time of this publication, Sheebah Karungi’s electricity has been successfully restored. The singer, while acknowledging the resolution, maintained her criticism of UMEME’s service delivery, questioning the need to publicly expose the issue before receiving a response.
“Thank you UMEME… My electricity has been restored! But seriously though, Did I have to first expose you here to respond!!!! What are the customer service lines for !!!!??? Kati omuntu atali Sheebah.. atalina twitter .. nga wabulijjo akola atya??!!! #ThisIsNotFair Kati if it was my Kaduuka neighbour who charged for me that didn’t have power, should she also post here on Twitter to get your services!!!?” Sheebah Karungi’s statement read.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by consumers in accessing prompt and efficient customer service from utility providers, prompting Sheebah to question the effectiveness of traditional channels for reporting issues.
