Uganda is likely to face shortage of men in years to come as per the findings of UBOS.
It was yesterday that the Uganda Bureau of Statistics under the stewardship of their Executive Director, Mungyereza released the provisional results for the census that was carried out 2 months ago and the results show that the number of men has reduced compared to the last census and there are more women than men in the country.
What message does this send to us?
It should remembered that it has always been the Muslims who had the audacity to marry more than one woman but according to the look of things, however, this might change in years to come unless otherwise.
According to Dr. Ben Mungyereza there are 16,935,456 million males in Uganda, compared to 17,921,357 million females. The national sex ratio stands at 94.5 males for every 100 females. The results show that the sex ratio has been declining over the previous censuses and now the districts with the lowest number of males compared to females include Kisoro, Mitooma, Maracha, Kabale, Kaabong, and Yumbe.
Where are the men going?
To some people, this reduction is attributed to the migration of men being higher than women. It’s mostly right that there are several men who seek for greener pastures abroad than women and therefore this could have partly affected the results since people in the Diaspora were not included in this census.
