The University League will resume on Sunday(28th) after the clash between Makerere University and Nkumba was postponed to give room and mass support for the Uganda Cubs as they take on the Zambian young Chipolopolo this afternoon at Nakivubo stadium. Makerere will be up against Nkumba University in the last game of the quarter finals round one at the Makerere university main grounds tomorrow at 2:00pm.
Makerere say they are ready to face-off with their opponents and that the team is in good shape and eagerly waiting for the tie. “Most of the team players are available and are in good condition. We are ready to face off with our opponents and we will have to use the home advantage to win the game”, team captian, Ronnie Atiku told BigEye.ug
“We will rely on some of our key players like Mike Mutyaba at the heart of midfield together with Baguma Gerald. Up front, Ebongo Gerald and Mugerwa Juilus will lead our attacks,” Atiku stressed further.
At the group stages Makerere’s game against UCU wasn’t concluded due to indiscipline from the fans and the game was discontinued by the referee. UCU was consequently handed a walkover win with a 3-0 goal margin.
“That was quite unfair because there were still 28 minutes of playing time remaining. Many games have been discontinued for such reasons like the fans being frustrated but I think the game should have been taken to a neutral ground for us to complete it because we were still in position to win that game”, Daglus Bamweyana, Makerere head coach told BigEye.ug
“That cost us a lot and we were almost banned from the league but there is no room for such mistakes again. We have talked to all stake holders and security will be available from the police to keep the situation calm at the stadium”, Bamweyana added.
Makerere has never lost to Nkumba University at their home ground.
