Western Uganda’s musical powerhouse Ray G is celebrating a major milestone as his Checkmate EP has soared to Number 1 on Apple Music in Uganda.

The project, which was officially released on June 28, has quickly captured the hearts of fans across the country, dominating the streaming charts.

The 6-track EP now leads the Apple Music Uganda charts, ahead of other notable releases. Among those trailing in the top 5 is Bebe Cool’s Break The Chains album, which currently sits at Number 4.

Ray G, real name Reagan Muhairwe, has built a loyal following over the years, especially for his signature blend of Afrobeat, RnB, and Runyankole lyrics. Checkmate seems to be the culmination of his consistent growth and bold musical experimentation.

Ray G Eyes UGX 50M from Latest EP Launch

In a surprising move that raised eyebrows and excitement in equal measure, Ray G had also announced he would be releasing 100 exclusive physical copies of Checkmate, each priced at UGX 500,000 (about $130).

If all copies sell, the singer will pocket UGX 50 million from this limited edition sale—a bold strategy that shows just how confident he is in his art and the loyalty of his fan base.

With this success, Ray G continues to stake his claim as one of Uganda’s most dynamic and innovative music acts.
