Popstar Iggy Azalea is taking a break from social media after negative comments emerged about her on Twitter.
The 24-year-old Australian, who’s had her share of online squabbles and spats, announced on Thursday she was taking a break from the medium because she’s finding it ‘negative and draining.’
Taking to her Twitter account, Iggy – real name is Amethyst Amelia Kelly – described the Internet as ‘ugly’ adding: ‘My management will tweet/run my accounts from today onwards…Peace out!’
The Fancy hitmaker, who was spotted holidaying in a bikini in Hawaii with boyfriend Nick Young on Sunday, used her bowing out of the social media spotlight as an opportunity to slam information sharing sites.
She took to Twitter upon her return from her holiday to remark that fans had commented on her cellulite, which was apparent in pictures of the star wearing a bikini that had emerged online.
She told followers in Thursday: ‘I want you to know I am taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining.’
Minutes later she added: ‘To become nasty because of the way I feel I am treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise I will try to keep smiling.’
She explained: ‘I feel the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is making me become an angry person and I cannot be that.’
The Mullumbimby-born star has been embroiled in a war of words online with arch-nemesis Azealia Banks as well as rappers, Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, soul singer Jill Scott, and rapper Eve.
