Besides his music, Flex D’Paper is popular for his ‘Rapaholix’ wear that comprises of sweat shirts, snaps backs, and hoodies. He is probably what you would call a label fanatic. I mean it’s not every day that you will find someone down here in Kampala wearing a Hermes belt, Versace tee, and Gucci cardigan all in one look! He fills us in his label obsession, and what makes his fashion tick.
How seriously do you take your fashion?
Image is everything, so to me my fashion is important. The way I present myself has to be on point.
Who is your all time fashion brand favorite?
Being a hip hop artiste, I grew up putting on hip hop labels like Sean John, Roca Wear Phat Pham and all that, but as times change and trends evolve, so does my taste. So currently, I am loving labels like Versace YSL, Hermes, LV, Gucci, Tom Ford … the list is endless. Every fashion brand got a special thing about it, you can notice I am putting on a YSL belt, Hermes scarf and a Burberry jean so everything got its own touch. So besides my Rapaholix wear, the rest are all good.
What is the one item you can never have enough of?
My G shock watches, I like to keep it simple so I use these everywhere I go, I got a variety of colors to match each attire.
What is your most prized fashion item, and for how long have you had it?
That would be my Jesus Piece. I have had it for more than 4 years, it has a special attachment.
What is the one item that has stayed in your wardrobe longest?
I keep giving out clothes so I don’t have those, but maybe my original Adidas shoes for 3years now, they look new every day.
How often do you go formal with your outfits?
Rarely, but on some corporate events, I do tuxedos and good gentle shoes.
What are some of the irritating fashion blunders you notice with Kampala women?
Using wrong hair wigs or weaves whatever those things are, that are in all sorts of colors, like Christmas has come early or something.
Which Ugandan celebrity do you feel needs to hire a stylist, to turn their fashion sense around?
I won’t mention names but just know, many of them need stylists. Many artistes are still rocking buggy things and too many poor quality things. That should change.
Which international celebrity would you swap wardrobes with?
Haha… That’s tight, many artistes are smart and all styled very well but I think it wouldn’t hurt Jay Z or Diddy’s to get me there wardrobes. Haha… I mean who doesn’t want those Tom ford attires and the YSL fragrances.
Do you have any memorable wardrobe malfunction?
Not really, I try to avoid those, whenever I am going out, however simple I may be dressed, I keep in mind that my image matters, so I dress wisely.
How much of your monthly budget do you spend on your wardrobe?
It’s crazy! I am not really sure because I buy clothes all the time, being a shopaholic is bad but fashion trends keep changing all the time, so I am forced to keep updating with the times.
If you were to auction off your entire wardrobe, how much would it go for?
We will need a calculator but you may spend all day adding it up. Haha… Just kidding but it would be worth a fortune.
Is there any difference between your fashion choices in your music videos, and in your day to day outfits?
Yes, a lot. For instance, if I am doing a video, I select attires that will match the song story line and theme as for my day-to-day life am simple but smart.
On a scale of 1-10, gauge your style?
Am 10/10 always haha…..Fashion killa!
