Rapper Benezeri is not happy with how big companies treated him as he sought sponsorship for his upcoming concert. The “Abeyo” hitmaker has today morning lashed out at the big companies for the treating him like trash, and also revealed how he has managed to cope with out their money ahead of his concert slated for Saturday, 14th May at UMA Show Grounds. He posted:
“Dear big companies,
This concert is for you. Today there are just 4 days left to the show and 90% of the costs have been covered, without the help of any of the big companies.
With all due respect big companies, you had made it seem like you were the broker between musicians and their supporters. That for a musician to successfully perform for his audience, he/ she must first prove themselves fit enough to be an ambassador of your agenda.
Dear big companies, many musicians felt like they had failed.
I’ll admit that I knocked at many of your doors, O big companies, tucking in my pressed office shirt, wielding a brown envelope that contained a proposal. A proposal to perform for the people that love my music.
Just like Albert Einstein, I’d like to thank you for the doors you closed in my face, the emails you didn’t respond to, the MOUs you signed where you didn’t follow your obligations, the insults you recklessly hurled (who is Benezeri? How come I’ve never heard of you? I can’t let you f* up my brand…), the way you laughed at me with your colleagues as I was leaving. No, thank you.
Because, just like Einstein, those small closed doors made me see huge windows of opportunity.
It’s 4 days to go and 90% of the costs of the show have been covered. Covered entirely by ticket sales (mostly VIP ones bought by mostly my age mates and some from a slightly older generation).
I’ve now come to the realisation that all I need in this journey is God, my family, my friends, supporters and the people that truly love my music.
When the over 1000- person capacity outside area of Madhvani hall gets filled, it’ll be more than a successful show to me. It’ll be a statement. A statement that we can do bigger things on our own, on our own terms.
My only regret is the time I wasted writing proposals and waiting long hours in crowded lounges.
I appeal to you all to come on Saturday and we make this statement together.
I just might decide to make this an annual event.
Thanks for all the support”
