Queen of Katwe nominated for Best Film in Africa Movie Academy Awards: Here’s the full list of nominees

Ugandan movie, Queen of Katwe has been nominated for the best film award in the 2017 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Queen of Katwe, which is nominated in six other categories, is  a 2016 biographical sports drama film about a girl who grew up in Kampala slums who sees her world rapidly change after being introduced to the game of chess.

The other Ugandan movies nominated in the AMAAs are: Bunyoko by Kizito Smaule and Rain by Daniel Mugerwa, both in the Best feature film by a director.

The nominees were announced on Sunday at the Kigali Convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda.

Now in their 13th edition, the annual continental awards are held to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry.
