Queen of Katwe, an upcoming Disney movie about Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi will premiere in Uganda next month.
We have learnt that the movie, which is set for release on 23rd September in USA, will finally screen in Kampala at Century Cinemax on October 1st.
According to reports, Queen of Katwe will premiere at an exclusive red carpet event, which will also serve as the movie’s Africa premiere. The event will be graced by the entire cast and crew.
Based on a true story, “Queen of Katwe” is a biopic about a Ugandan chess prodigy who rises from the slums of Katwe to become a world chess champion. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o stars as the mother of the chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, who is portrayed by Madina Nalwanga.
