Renowned events promoter Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, has launched a scathing attack on Eddy Kenzo, branding him as the most selfish artist in Uganda’s music industry.

Abtex claims that despite Kenzo’s ability to draw large crowds, his high booking fees leave promoters with heavy financial losses.
“Eddy Kenzo is selfish. His costs are very high, and even when he brings people to shows, the promoter leaves with nothing because of his high demands,” Abtex said. “People see a successful event due to the numbers who come to see him perform, but the promoter leaves in tears.”
The promoter did not stop at performance fees. He went on to accuse Kenzo and his manager, Martin Beta, of sidelining promoters in key industry decisions and failing to include them in initiatives led by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), particularly those involving government funds.
Abtex expressed frustration that Kenzo’s leadership within UNMF allegedly excludes stakeholders like promoters, especially in the handling of the Shs 33 billion fund allocated by the government to support the creative sector.
His statements come in the wake of an informal ban on Kenzo by a group of promoters, who accuse the Big Talent boss of using his close ties to President Museveni to block their access to government support.
This is the latest episode in the growing rift between artists under UNMF and some sections of the events promotion industry, raising questions about unity and equitable benefit-sharing within Uganda’s entertainment space.
