Proline FC thrashed Lira based side Sporting United 4-1 to earn a promotion to the 2016/2017 Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) in a third place final played at Nakivubo stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Proline and Sporting were second from the Rwenzori and Elgon Groups respectively after eliminating Ndejje University 4-2 on penalties and Masavu FC by 2-0 respectively on Thursday in their first games of the playoffs to book their spots in the third place playoff final.
Proline took the lead in 23rd minute of the game through Gift Ali’s thunder shoot from outside the 18-yards’ box while in the 38th minute, Dickens Okwi leveled matters for Sporting from the penalty spot to end it 1-1 at halftime.
Eleven minutes into the second half; Simon Mbazira restored Proline’s lead from the 12 yard spot before Edrisa Lubega scored to extend the lead a minute later, making it 3-1 in the process. Three minutes later, Lubega netted his second of the day to make it 4-1 and his side were eventually too far to catch for Sporting United.
Proline becomes the third team to gain promotion to the Uganda Premier League after Onduparaka and Kirinya Jinja SS.
