The President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended financial support to the National Football team ‘The Cranes’ as they prepare for an away trip to Comoros for the 2017 AFCON qualifier that will be played on Saturday, 5th September 2015.
Over the weekend, FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo revealed shocking news that Uganda was on the verge of withdrawing from the continental campaign due to lack of adequate finances but that will now not come to pass, at least not for failing to go to Comoros.
This follow a $210,000 financial support package from President Museveni after the Federation’s request for assistance.
“I am 100 % behind you. Go and represent our country with passion. I wish you the best. I offer financial assistance as per your earlier request,” reads the President Museveni’s statement on the federation website.
It was such a relief to FUFA that Eng. Moses Magogo couldn’t help it, but to express quick gratitude to the President who has always come to the Cranes’ rescue when need arose.
“We are grateful for the offer from the President of Uganda. This support is timely as we have been struggling with finances to Comoros since the air tickets to the island nation are very expensive”, Magogo remarked.
Uganda take on Comoros in their second game of Group D AFCON qualifiers having condemned Botswana by 2-0 in the first game at Namboole stadium.
Meanwhile, their Saturday opponents will also be seeking for their first point having lost by 2-0 against Burkina Faso.
