President Yoweri Museveni has cautioned World Cup fans to be alert as they enjoy football bearing in mind that the country is threatened by terror attacks from the Somalia based militant group, Al Shabaab.

The President made the remarks last evening while addressing press at his country home Rwakitura. He called on security organs to be vigilant and screen everyone watching so as to avoid events that occurred in 2010 where at least 74 people were killed in twin bombings at Kyadondo Rugby Club, Kampala as they watched World Cup.

UBC TV Uganda has already acquired exclusive rights to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2014 which will be held in Brazil courtesy of President Museveni.

At the same press briefing, President Museveni updated the media on the IGAD meeting held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on South Sudan saying, “Uganda went to South Sudan to stop the collapse of the country and stop the killing in Juba. We wanted our South Sudanese brothers to have a chance to build their country. Now they have agreed on a joint interim government, then they will go into elections. That is perfect and good. We shall work with whoever wins.”

Relatedly, responding to questions about Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s rumoured interest to contest in 2016 general elections affecting Government work, he said, “that is a matter for our party to decide. Because of those rumours, MPs came up with that Kyankwanzi resolution you all know about. You must do everything at the right time. Do not serve supper at lunch time. There is a time for elections and that time has not come.”

Similarly, the President responded to questions regarding former vice President Prof Gilbert Bukenya’s backing an opposition candidate in the recent Luweero by-elections.

“NRM Central Executive Committee will handle the matter of Prof. Gilbert Bukenya,” he said.

That aside, the President also advised the King of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru to turn to the track of freedom fighters who struggled for freedom. He explained the existence of Bamba and Bakonjo in the area.

“If my son the King of Tooro has decided to fast, it will help him guard his figure and remain fit. But I advise him to turn to the track of freedom fighters who brought this freedom and restored cultural institutions. We shall not allow anybody to divide the country.”

The Tooro King will begin a seven days fasting on Saturday June 14, 2014 protesting the installation of cultural leaders in kingdoms namely; Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu in Kasese and Obudhingya Bwa Bamba in Bundibugyo

Responding to a question by Bukedde TV on rumours being peddled about Buganda’s titles, the President said, “the titles were brought to me and I handed them over to the Kingdom. I don’t keep titles. Oh, that would be a lot of work for me. Let them go and check with Lands.”
