At the Muteesa II Royal Stadium in Wankulukuku, history repeated itself in the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) during the clash between the 2011 champions Express FC and the 16-time record champions SC Villa.
Like it was during the first leg encounter between the two sides, the game once again ended prematurely in the 85th minute, just three minutes more than the premature ending at the Ssaza grounds in Mityana when match referee Brian Nsubuga called off the game in the 82nd minute as Villa led by a 2-1 score at the time. It all came after Villa’s goalie Nicholas Ssebwato was allegedly stoned by the Express fans. Tear gas was fired forcing players and fans to spread into the nearby plantations.
Yesterday, the development followed SC Villa’s equalizer that came in the 84th minute through the unstoppable Eria Ssekisambu which sparked off chaos among the crowd. The goal came just six minutes after the sending off of Express’ Ibra Kayiwa who was booked with a second yellow for time wasting.
The Red Eagles had already taken the lead through John Ssemazzi just four minutes after recess. The Express fans threw stones into the Stadium which called for Police’s intervention with tear gas to bring back the situation to normal.
This implies that the FUFA competitions’ committee will await a match report from the referee before making any further decisions. For the first leg, a boardroom decision was made in favour of Villa which earned them three points and three goals.
We will keep you posted on those developments.
