Tanzania’s newly elected president, John Pombe Magufuli scrapped this year’s Independence Day celebrations saying it would be shameful for the country to spend huge sums on celebrations when Tanzanians are dying of cholera.
In its place, he asked Tanzanians to carry out clean-up exercises in their various locations. He also went on to participate in the clean-up exercises. Check out photos of Magufuli getting his hands dirty below.
