It was an evening of nostalgia as Makerere University’s alumni thronged the great hill for a homecoming dinner that was hosted at the Freedom Square on Friday.
Held under the theme, “Through These Gates,” the dinner comes as part of Makerere University’s centennial celebrations and was aimed at celebrating great personalities from different professions that have gone through the gates of Makerere.
The dinner was also intended to build memories that will last by strengthening the bond between the University and the alumni as Makerere University celebrates a hundred years.
Speaking at the dinner, the University’s Council Chairperson Lorna Magara, noted that, “This evening is an evening of celebrating those memories, rekindling friendships and establishing new networks. Makerere will always be our home, a place of new exciting opportunities and legacy creation.”
She further revealed that they have earmarked a number of legacy projects to lay foundation for the next 100 years.
According Lorna Magara, some of these legacy projects that are being considered include a university teaching hospital in Katalemwa, a student resource center on the main campus and student hostels.
Makerere University will celebrate a hundred years of existence in October this year.
