We know him for his guitar skills, he is next to none when he gets up on his feet and starts playing his guitar and tomorrow you can watch him for free at Maurice Kirya’s Sound Cup Café.
The multi-award winning guitarist will be playing as Maurice and his customers celebrate the first anniversary of his cafe business located at Garden City. Maurice thanked fans for the support, for his own birthday messages and for loving his café today, he promised them a memorable performance by his friend Ouma.
He said: “I wanna thank you all for the wonderful birthday messages, you all made me feel very loved! Tomorrow we’ll celebrate at The Sound Cup, alongside a show by Ouma. We’ll also celebrate The Sound Cup anniversary! DJ Jo will wrap up the night with some old skool jams, and it’s all FREE (well…We’d appreciate if you bought a meal or something LOL) Once again, thank you all so much!”
The show starts at 8pm.
Myko Ouma is a renowned figure in jazz and contemporary world music from Uganda. After studying Western music at Makerere College School, he began investigating traditional Ugandan instrumentation. Proficient on a variety of distinctive traditional instruments, Ouma’s musical vision is to integrate Ugandan folk music and jazz. As a guitarist, he has developed a unique playing style informed by the traditional rhythms and melodies of Ugandan roots music. He is an active producer both in studio and of live events.
Together with his long-time colleague Kinobe Herbert, he co-founded the Ugandan band, SOUL BEAT AFRICA and in Feb 2010, he released his self-titled debut solo album.
