The Uganda Musicians’ Associations (UMA) has halted duties of three of its leaders; Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, Halima Namakula and Isaac Ruccibigungo.
According to a document from UMA making rounds on social media, a cabinet meeting held on Monday, December 6, 2021 resolved that the three members should no longer represent the association in any business at any level or in any form with immediate effect.
This will be until the association communicates otherwise.
All communications and pending businesses the UMA should be done directly with its office through Ms. Renah Nalumansi, who is currently heading the finance department.
UMA’s shocking move has since sparked massive debates in the media and public domain.
Liable sources suggest that Phina, Halima and Rucci fell victim of the UG-Connect concert project sponsored by the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, Gen. Salim Saleh Akandwanaho, that collapsed in September.
The three are alleged to have financially messed the project and hence suspension from the artists’ body.
Phina Mugerwa has been serving as the UMA & UMA SACCO Secretary, Halima Namakula – UMA Policy Board & UMA SACCO Head of Loans Committee, and Isaac Rucci – UMA Policy Board & UMA SACCO Chairperson.
