Phina Mugerwa Condemns Gravity Omutujju’s Vulgar Song: “We Are Tired of This Trend”

The Secretary of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), Phina Mugerwa Masanyalaze, has voiced strong criticism against Gravity Omutujju’s latest song, Omunio, labeling it vulgar and unsuitable for public consumption.

The song has sparked a heated debate in the music industry, with many calling for stricter content regulation.

Phina expressed her dismay over the increasing trend of explicit content in Ugandan music, highlighting its negative influence on the younger generation.

She stated that such vulgarity embarrasses the industry and vowed to take action against artists promoting it.

“Ugandan Music Industry Is At Its Lowest,” Says Gravity Omutujju

“We have kids. Before we even judge others for embarrassing our industry, we are doing it ourselves,” Phina stated. She pointed out that while artists of the 1990s, especially Kadongo Kamu musicians, occasionally touched on explicit themes, they skillfully used clever wordplay to conceal the content, unlike today’s artists who are overly blunt.

Phina also warned artists contributing to this trend to reconsider their approach. “For the artists that think they will come up and ruin our industry, this is your last warning. We are tired. You have embarrassed the industry when it comes to the trending music right now,” she vowed.
