“Disappointed” isn’t the word to describe Pharrell’s reaction to losing the Best Original Song at the Oscars this past Sunday (March 2). The 40-year-old Virginia Beach native is grateful for the entire journey, calling the experience “incredible” during a Hot 97 interview this week.
“What a great feeling that the world has given me by lifting me up. Seriously,” he told Angie Martinez.
Skateboard P’s Academy Awards performance of his nominated song, “Happy,” featured impromptu dance sessions with actresses Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Lupita Nyong’o. Although the ubiquitous dance jam was beat out by “Let It Go,” from the animated film Frozen, the Oscar set wrapped up a busy awards season for the N.E.R.D. frontman. The lead single off his sophomore solo album, G I R L, has topped the charts in more than a dozen countries and has been used in ads for Beats by Dre and Time Warner Cable.
Next up, P is planning to embark on a solo tour to promote G I R L, which dropped Monday (March 3). “We’re definitely going on tour, I can’t say when right now, but we’re definitely going on tour,” he promised.
